21 November 2018, 5.30pm – 7.00pm

Dear Families,

At Burton Borough we are committed to providing students with a varied experience as part of the careers provision at school and hold a post 16 Provider event annually.

Could you answer the following questions?

•    How will the raising of the participation age to 18 affect me, my son or daughter?
•    What do the new GCSE gradings mean?
•    Where locally can you study for A’ Levels?
•    What is a BTEC National Diploma?
•    How are apprenticeships arranged?
•    Can you mix A’ Levels and Vocational Courses?
•    What GCSE’s do you need to apply for a college course in your area of interest?
•    What is the difference between a level 1, level 2 and level 3 qualification?
•    What careers are available in the Armed Forces?
•    What financial help can students get to help them study?

These are the sort of questions students need to answer if they are to make informed decisions about their future.

Future Focus personal advisers, local colleges, training providers, sixth form centres, Universities, armed forces and apprenticeship providers will all be on hand to provide advice and guidance to our students.

We feel that this information is crucial when planning career pathways and option choices, both at GCSE and post 16 stages.

The event will run from 5:30-7pm and will give parents and students in years 10 & 11 a chance to talk to the organisations together.

If you require any more information about this or the careers programme in general, please feel free to contact me.

Yours faithfully
